Little Athens is an accessible, safe space providing unstructured play for children and caregivers of all ages and abilities in the Athens area.
Our History
Little Athens launched in March of 2017 after a group of local parents and teachers met together to strategize how to create an indoor space that facilitates imaginative play in Athens. This group started with a launch party at Little Kings. They were expecting about 200 people, and hoping to raise $500. Instead, more than 700 people showed up, and they raised more than $5,000. The message was clear: families in Athens wanted a children’s museum!
Little Athens began doing pop-up play activities at festivals, schools, and other local events. In 2018, Little Athens partnered with Georgia Square Mall to have monthly pop ups there. In 2019, Athens Farmer’s Market reached out to create a partnership with a monthly pop up there as well.
These pop up events not only provide educational opportunities for children, they also provide social skills practice, community involvement, quality time for families to engage together, and they promote community pride and encourage local spending.

Right now we are a mobile museum, and we are working toward a physical space. Our focus right now is to continue to bring interactive play experiences to children around Athens. Little Athens is now looking to the future, and ready to secure a permanent physical location. Will you be a part of the future?
